You may be given medication to help lower your heart rate for this examination. You will lie on a scan table that slides slowly into a large circular opening in the scanning machine and relax watching the Plasma TV above. The CT staff will be observing you and instructing from the control area, through Speakers inside the scanner. The technologist will be watching you at all times and be in constant communication.

The CT staff will take initial scans to help define the area to be imaged and to asses if there any calcium deposits in your heart. If there is too much Calcium deposits that may not allow doctors to see inside your arteries and it may not be possible to do this scan.
During Scanning, you will be asked to hold your breath and you will receive an injection of contrast media through the IV to " highlight" the coronary arteries. As the contrast is injected, it may feel warm sensation all your body. This is a normal occurence and will pass quickly. |
